Espoma Products – When and How to Use

April 28, 2020

We love all the Espoma products for a variety of reasons. For one, it’s an all natural and organic plant food. Secondly, it’s super user friendly. All the directions are clearly stated on the bag or container. Some liquid products even pre-measure the amount for you! Using and picking out plant food can sometimes be intimidating. How much do I use and what kind? How often? Will I kill my plant? Well we are here to help you through those questions!

Bio-tone Starter Plus
What to use on: Use this on all your plants! Seriously! This stuff is gold, and you should always have a bag on hand.
When and how to use: Use on all your new plantings only. Add the Bio-tone to the bottom of your pre-dug hole. Make sure the roots of the plant you’re planting come in direct contact with the Bio-tone.

Holly-tone
What to use on: You want to use this on all your acid loving plants like camellias, hydrangeas, azaleas, gardenias and blueberries (it’s organic so it’s safe to use on them!).
When and how to use: Just like with the Bio-tone, you want to add this to the bottom of the hole and place the plant roots right on top of the Holly-tone for new plantings. Use this to feed established plants too! Feeding is usually Spring and Fall and directions on how and how much to apply is clearly written on the bag – thanks Espoma!

Flower-tone
What to use on: Made for abundant blooms! This is ideal for annuals, perennials and hanging baskets.
When and how to use: Just like with the other tones, use this for new and established plantings. For established plants, you’ll want to use this monthly from the beginning of the growing season (April for us) until the middle of September. Set a reminder in your calendar and never miss a month!

Rose-tone
What to use on: Roses! Especially if you want big prize winning roses!
When and how to use: Use this for new plantings and established ones. When using for established plants, you’ll want to apply monthly from the beginning of the growing season (April for us) to mid-September.

Citrus-tone
What to use on: For bigger and tastier fruit, use Citrus-tone! You can actually use this for fruit, nut and citrus trees. And remember, it’s all natural and organic, so your citrus is still safe to enjoy!
When and how to use: Perfect for fruits in containers and in the ground, Espoma has broken down how much to use for your established plants based on height. Plan to feed established plants pre-bloom (March), post-bloom (May/June) and fall (September).

Tomato-tone
What to use on: On your tomatoes! Use the all organic Tomato-tone for new plantings, established plants, and potted plants.
When and how to use:  Apply Tomato-tone 14 days after planting and continue feeding twice each month during the growing season (usually April through August).
